4G calling: let's find out about VoLTE!

VoLTE is short for Voice over LTE (voice over LTE network, synonymous with 4G) and is a technology that allows calls to be made in 4G and taking advantage of the speed of this network. On a practical level, 4G calls are like normal calls, nothing changes on our end.

  2. What do I need to make 4G calls?
  3. What frequencies need to be amplified?
  4. In brief

Until 2016, calls passed over the 2G or 3G network and then the phone handled data traffic separately over the 3G/4G network. With this new technology called VoLTE, calls and data directly and simultaneously pass over 4G. At the transition, the quality of calls is significantly improved.

For iPhone users, Apple has a page where you can find the list of phone operators offering 4G calling service: you can check it out at this link.

1.What advantages do 4G calls have?

The connection is established in a faster way..

The benefit we notice first is that the speed with which a call is made is faster. It only takes a couple of seconds to hear the phone ring on the other end.

It feels like you have the other person in front of you.

With the new 4G calls, the audio quality is truly remarkable, with clearer sound and less delay or echo.

Surfing the Internet and making phone calls at the same time.

During your 4G calls you can continue to surf or use e-mail at the same speed.

2.What do I need to make 4G calls?

In order to make 4G calls, it is necessary to:

  • the rate you have with your operator must include this service;
  • have a recent smartphone that is compatible with the 4G network and this service;
  • your smartphone system is up to date.

3.What frequencies need to be amplified?

Mobile phone operators' 4G networks mainly use band 20 (800 MHz), which varies by geography, with 900 and 2600 MHz frequencies. So for a recent smartphone (included in the list above, for example), it is recommended to opt for a GSM calls + internet 4G repeater, that is, a repeater that includes (at least) the 800 and 900 MHz frequencies.

The 800 MHz frequency is not the only one used for 4G internet, the others are 2600 and 1800 MHz. In this case, if you have stations in your area that use these frequencies, then we recommend getting a 5-band repeater that covers all of these frequencies (and 3G too, who more..): 800, 900, 1800, 2100, and 2600 MHz.

When in doubt, send us a message with some information about your location, operator, smartphone model: we will gladly help you figure out which frequencies to cover and how to make 4G calls.

4.In brief

4G calls, also known as VoLTE, are certainly a welcome novelty: fast, clear-sounding, efficient, and leaving us surfing in the meantime, at the same speed. To take advantage of VoLTE, we must have a recently manufactured smartphone and set up this feature. The GSM repeater that is right for us, if there is no 4G signal inside the house, we can find it in the category GSM Repeaters Voice+ Internet.
